Detecting the Trail of a Random Walker in a Random Scenery

چکیده

Suppose that the vertices of the lattice Z are endowed with a random scenery, obtained by tossing a fair coin at each vertex. A random walker, starting from the origin, replaces the coins along its path by i.i.d. biased coins. For which walks and dimensions can the resulting scenery be distinguished from the original scenery? We find the answer for simple random walk, where it does not depend on dimension, and for walks with a nonzero mean, where a transition occurs between dimensions three and four. We also answer this question for other types of graphs and walks, and raise several new questions.

Stationary Measures for Random Walks in aRandom Environment with Random

Let ? act on a countable set V with only nitely many orbits. Given a ?-invariant random environment for a Markov chain on V and a random scenery, we exhibit, under certain conditions, an equivalent stationary measure for the environment and scenery from the viewpoint of the random walker. Such theorems have been very useful in investigations of percolation on quasi-transitive graphs.

Reconstructing the environment seen by a RWRE

Consider a walker performing a random walk in an i.i.d. random environment, and assume that the walker tells us at each time the environment it sees at its present location. Given this history of the transition probabilities seen from the walker but not its trajectory can we reconstruct the law of the environment? We show that in a one-dimensional environment, the law of the environment can be ...

Deviations of a Random Walk in a Random Scenery with Stretched Exponential Tails

Let (Zn)n∈N0 be a d-dimensional random walk in random scenery, i.e., Zn = ∑n−1 k=0 YSk with (Sk)k∈N0 a random walk in Z d and (Yz)z∈Zd an i.i.d. scenery, independent of the walk. We assume that the random variables Yz have a stretched exponential tail. In particular, they do not possess exponential moments. We identify the speed and the rate of the logarithmic decay of P( 1 nZn > tn) for all se...

The Codimension of the Zeros of a Stable Process in Random Scenery

A stable process in random scenery is the continuum limit of a class of random walks in random scenery that is described as follows. A random scenery on Z is a collection, {y(0), y(±1), y(±2), . . .}, of i.i.d. mean-zero variance-one random variables. Given a collection x = {x1, x2, . . . } of i.i.d. random variables, we consider the usual random walk n 7→ sn = x1+ · · ·+xn which leads to the f...
